The Teso community carries a rich cultural heritage — its language, dress, dance, music, cuisine and craft — that has never had a single, central platform to be celebrated, showcased and passed on. This concept note sets out the case for one: a festival that gives that heritage a proper stage.
The festival is named after the Emaali, the industrious and creative producer figure in Teso tradition, and is put forward by The Iteso Cultural Union (Einos Iteso Kopiten) as the vehicle for that stage. In three pages it lays out why the festival exists and who is behind it, ahead of the fuller dossier.
Its objectives are threefold: to celebrate Teso culture in its own right, to generate economic activity around that celebration — for traders, performers and the wider community — and to leave a legacy that outlasts any single edition of the event.
