Alongside the Festival’s own preparations, a book is doing similar work on paper. The Iteso: History, Culture, and Identity in Changing Times, written by Thomas Okedi and carrying a foreword by the Emorimor, Papa Iteso, is on sale now.
Its publisher calls it “more than a book — a lasting tribute to the heritage, resilience, and identity of the Iteso”: illustrated, and written for “every proud Ateker home, school, library” as much as for readers of African history generally.

The book is priced at UGX 70,000, or KSh 2,500 for readers in Kenya, with modest delivery fees. Copies are sold at:
- Kampala — the Iteso Cultural Union office at Forest Mall, Lugogo; Parliament; Da Ville Bar & Grill at Ssonde, near St. Julian High School; the WeGrow Co-op Society office at Ssonde, Mukono; Aristoc Bookshop; and the TFK Luminary Publishers online shop.
- Kumi — the Nyero Rock Paintings tourism office, and Alpha Bookshop.

- Entebbe, and outlets in western Kenya.

The Festival and the book are separate undertakings with the same purpose: to leave the Teso story somewhere it can be found. That is the argument of The Legacy too — a cultural centre, a monument, and a record that outlasts a weekend.
